DEDICATED TO READING TO CHILDREN FROM THE TIME THEY ARE IN THE WOMB UNTIL THEY CAN WRITE THEIR OWN BOOK
According to Patricia Wolfe in "Building the Reading Brain", 2004, she says, "Learning to read is a long gradual process that begins in infancy". I, as an educator, totally believe this and want to show parents how to get started. I will give out titles and genres of many books and tell parents what they need to do. Then Wolfe says, "Even though reading is an acquired skill and not a natural process, most people do become fluent readers, but not without a lot of hard work".
Now it is the teacher's turn to do their job.
I want to support this effort by providing numerous titles and activities that teachers can use in Journal Writing, Literature Studies, Author Studies, Science Units, Social Study Units and whatever else they can use from a colleague's expertise that now has the time to devote to these activities. All ideas will be in reference to the State's Standards for the state they live in. I will provide a reading list incorporating all reading levels that one works with and activities/writing projects that promote the topic they are working on.
Contact me if you have an area that needs to be developed and I will do my best to develop your idea. Together we can promote reading and writing skills for every child from infancy to Middle School.
